Finishing A Turkey In The Oven
Steve
Posts: 94
We're going over to friends for Thanksgiving, but want to smoke one of the turkeys in the egg, which is here. I have no way to transport it. What's the best way to proceed? They're not very far away (20 minutes). [p]Can I smoke it most of the way, say to 150 degrees, slam it in a cooler, and finish it in their oven? Or should I finish it completely the day before and reheat the whole thing?

Steve,[p] Why not just finish it and "slam it in the cooler".. Better yet get you friends to come get you and the Egg and show them how easy it is to use

Steve,
I too would finish the bird "at home", and transport it in the "warmer".[p]To make a warmer, heat 2 or 3 or 4 bricks either in the Egg or in the oven. Place these in your cooler half an hour before the turkey is ready, and replace the lid. (You may want to put them on a towel so as to not melt the liner of the cooler.)[p]When the bird is ready, out go the bricks, in goes the bird and off goes you to the party.[p]HTH

Steve,
You are supposed to let the bird rest for 20 minutes anyway, so would it be possible to time it so that you slam the bird in the cooler, and when you walk in the door, they carve the bird?[p]TNW

BlueSmoke,[p]Same suggestion, but I use boiling water instead of bricks.
