Grilled lettuce

Had a freind talk about this last night, sounds interesting. Any one done it? I think this might be a good "interlude" while BGE gets up to T-Rex temps for some nice slabs of cow. Please send any success/ failure war stories.[p]Thanks [p]Eric

Eric,[p]There is a chef from Nova Scotia, Canada named Michael Smith who has a cooking show on TV. He grilled a Caesar salad. First he grilled some bread brushed with olive oil. Once removed from the grill he rubbed raw garlic cloves into the rough surface of the toasted bread. Cut that up into cubes for the croutons.
Then he grilled some Italian bacon (pancetta) and and cut that up.
Lastly...he cut a head of romaine lettuce in half and brushed it with olive oil. He quickly grilled each half...only on the flat (cut) side over high heat. It wasn't on long. I'd guess a minute or two. Light charring on the lettuce which when torn up for the salad was barely visible due to the small surface area of the leaves that were actually grilled. It looked intriguing but I haven't tried it.
Cheap experiment. I'll give it a whirl soon.
