My wife asked me to cook some burgers and bake some Sweet Taters on my Egg. So for the heck of it I tried this experiment.[p]How long to Pre-heat my oven vs getting the egg up to temp?[p]The Players One brand new GE Electic Stove with Digital Temp Control. My almost brand new Xl BGE with my remote Maverick et 73.[p]I added some lump to my what was already in the Egg and lit it. Opened the vent and the daisy wheel. Then I walked into my kitchen and turned on the oven pre-set to 400 deg.[p]Tick Tock Tick Tock[p]Eleven Minutes and the Oven was up to temp.
Twenty Minutes the Egg was up to temp..[p]I turned off the oven and put the burgers and taters in my Egg. Smiling I said to myself "I can wait nine minutes for great tasting food.."

Celtic Wolf,[p]Just remember, with the egg and the oven when they hit that temp and you open the top or oven door you loose a good bit of that heat. With the oven it will reheat in a very consistant fashion. With the egg it depends on the fire. Most chefs want the oven to be stabalized and heating for an hour and depending on what they are cooking, they may add pans with water or pizza stones to the oven to make the internal temp of the oven as stable as possible. You can add 20 lbs of 38 degree meat to a stabilized egg and it will drive the temp down enough to make you think you need to adjust the vents. If you add that cold meat to an egg which has not been allowd to stabilize the swings will be more extreme.
  • Why1504,[p] I knowv this. My point was that 9 minutes isn't all that much to wait..[p] Now I have to figure out why I need the Electric Oven[p]

    Celtic Wolf,
Eggzactly, my oven is so jealous of my Egg, I think it's turning green. Two 7.5 lb butts tonight, I never tried injecting them before. Tried Chris Lillys injection recipe, let ya know tommorrow how it tastes. -RP
