BGE Table with or without casters?

My table is quite heavy to move in and out of the garage every time I use it (Friggin' obstacle course - no, there's no room to park a car in there) so I'm thinking of modifications. [p] My neighbor (XL BGE) used to have casters on all 4 legs but recently changed two out for 10" wheels. He gave me the pair of heavy duty casters that he took off, said the table moves much easier now with the wheels on the heavy end. [p] I'm concerned that the casters may allow the legs to work themselves loose over time. There's also a small but pronounced bump right at the garage door (it's not 1.1/2" lip you usually see at garage doors, more like a speed bump with a ridge) which moves things around everytime I go in or out.[p]Have any of you out there that use casters on all four, developed any structural problems over time? [p]Any recommendations?

    Flashback Bob,
I just have wheels on one end. Are you sure you don't want to get a cover and leave it outside?[p]I made a "box" to fit over my Egg, so I can put the cover on when the Egg is still fairly hot -- say 250 inside.[p]CoverProtection.jpg

    Flashback Bob,
probably be fine if you just give it a little lift on the caster end when the casters are going over the speed bump.

  • BobS,
I will be getting a cover for it and plan to leave it on the deck after the table and chairs are put away for the season.[p] I just don't have a permanent home for it yet (probably will never have just one spot for it) so in the mean time I need to be able to move it around.

My table is made out of wire shelving but I found that the size of the casters made a big difference when I moved it. I tried little castors, then 3" and am now happy with 5" wheels.[p]Toy Man
  • fishlessman,
That's a good point. Instead of lifting it the whole way, I can lift it only at the tricky parts.[p]Maybe I am thinking about this too much.

  • Flashback Bob: My table has three inch casters on it I believe. I've moved the thing three times, trying different spots around the backyard. I could not imagine moving it every time to cook. [p]I suggest either you scout out a permanent place; big enough to include your egg growth, don't kid yourself, or do yourself a favor and spring for big wheels. Remember, all it takes is one brain fart, and you got bigger problems than casters vs. wheels. [p]Good morning to ya.....T

    <p />Sandbagger,
I have 10" wheels on the heavy end, it's the other end I'm thinking about. I was originally thinking about improvising some kind of handle(s)to facilitate easier movement. [p]But then the casters came into play.... I may look into getting a big pair of casters as that will probably do the job.[p](Stike, please refrain from sophmorish response at this time.)

  • Flashback Bob,
You might consider trying to get casters that have wheel locks.[p]Joe

  • stike,
hummmm, nothing about a "big pair of casters?"[p]Good for you.

  • Flashback Bob, there was a brief moment in life when stike was speechless and offered to buy a beer. I am not sure which made the moment more memorable: him speechless or offering to buy? Later…T
