To oil or not to oil?

I have been grilling and BBQing for about 30 years on a Weber Kettle and for about a month now on the Egg. I have never once oiled my grill before cooking, have rarely had a sticking problem. It seems moving the subject just after putting it on the grill prevents sticking and makes oiling unnessesary.[p]Anybody else out there not oil. Raichlin seems to always recomend oiling.

Duckegg,
I have never oiled either. Put it on, wiggle it, and let it cook. Same for fish and burgers. Don't mess with it until it has completed the char.

Duckegg,[p]I oil the grill or pan when I do fish. Even with a big spatula, fish seems to fall apart, so it need a little slick. Otherwise, no. Every now and then a bit of the food sticks, but not too bad.[p]gdenby

Duckegg,
I never used to do it until I got my BGE and now I am spraying with PAM. I like it - not so much the sticking of the food, but cleaning the grill for the next cook is easier. [p]I never cooked much fish before, but based on experience so far, I think it would be a problem if I did not oil the grill pan.

Duckegg,
I never use oil on my Egg. The secret is what you said, as soon as you pull whatever you are cooking, take a brush and clean the grill. It will all come off nicely at that moment and ready for the next time. I use a nylon brush kinda like one you clean tile with. [p]Chef Jerry

Duckegg, I dont oil, no need to, searing takes care of that, when its done food will release, even fish. I use only the cast iron grate, after a major lava cleaning I will season the grate, but thats all.
