gas conversion

jerry king,
If your serious about the gas conversion then I would offer to sell your egg. The whole charcoal cooking process is central to egging. Good luck on selling your egg, Tom
-
jerry king,[p] How big is your Egg? Where are you located? How much you want for it?
-
jerry king,
We know where you live and our agents will be there shortly! Do not try to resist. They will remove your Egg and replace it with a Weber Gasser 12000. No will you feel better? [p];>) Just funnin' ya son.

jerry king,
Put an electric hotplate burner in the bottom. Place a cast iron skillet full of wood chips on the burner. You will have the worlds most efficient electric smoker. I did this once in an emergency when I was out of charcoal. It's not as good as real fire, but far better than a gas grill.

jerry king,
Are you tired of good food? Buy a cheap gasser and sell the Egg if you are. If you're on the west coast, maybe I'd buy you a gasser and trade for your egg.

Just joking

jerry king, I'm not sure if this is a serious post or not, but assuming that it is, I would recommend using a mapp torch to light your chacoal. (www.nakedwhiz.com) Go to the site there is a whole tutorial on using a mapp torch, but the bottom line is you light the coals in 2 or 3 places for about 20 seconds, leave your vents open. Walk away and prep your food or whatever and in the same time it takes a gasser to heat up your egg will be ready to go.

IF you are real serious to convert to gas - ie have a gas ceramic, look for a round gas burning unit and place it where the fire grate sits, runing the hose out of the lower vent area, BUT a portion of the gas hose would be exposed to the internal heat and that could be dangerous.

jerry king,
I am unaware of any gas conversion kits for the Egg. Even the brands that have a gas burner pretty much only intend you to use them to light the charcoal, not cook with it. Like everyone has said, if you don't want to mess around with charcoal, you'd be better off selling the Egg and buying something more suitable to your needs/desires.[p]TNW

jerry king,[p]I've been toying with the idea of some kind of gas starter that would go below the grate through the vent and shoot the flames up at charcoal. As I'm writing this I just realized that I bought a burner for a turkey fryer for $5 and I'm thinking that might be the perfect thing. [p]I'll post the results after I try it.[p]Bruce

BigDaddy - OCT,
I don't think you want to start your flames at the bottom of your pile of lump. I think the lump burns from the top down. That is why you have lump left over after a cook. If you started at the bottom then all your lump would burn up. Just a thought, Tom

jerry king,[p]Ha HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!!!! I will be glade to sale a gas grill!
