    Susie,
Congats!!! It's all over from here!![p]No, you don't need a platesetter for kabobs. I'd get the fire around 300*-350* and just keep an eye on them. Any marinade or rub will do... use your imagination...[p]Let us know how they turned out and don't be shy about posting questions. There is a good chance the question has been posted before, but will all the new traffic we have been getting, it never hurts to revisit something. Explore and good luck!

    Wardster,
    Speaking of revisiting....no...no I won't bring it up again.[p]:)

  • Susie,
You may want a PlateSetter at some point in the future and will be frustated that BGE doesn't make one for the small. Check out GrateMates and The Naked Wiz site for clues about indirect setups. [p]rb[p]

Susie,[p]Here is my favorite setup. I saw it used on the
forum long ago. It has worked very well for me.[p]

  • Susie,
I recently got a small BGE too. I was a bit disappointed the BGE doesn't affer many accessories for the Small BGE. I went and got a 8-1/2" pizza stone-around $12.00 and then got another 13" grate, used three carriage bolts for legs (put the heads at the grate surface so they don't interfear with cooking) so now when I smoke I put the 8-1/2" stone on the lower original rack directly over my initial fire and cook on the raised rack higher I the dome and flush with the top of the cooker. Did brisket last night-CAME OUT AWSOME after about 6-hrs and today it's butt.. Good luck, play around & have fun experimenting with it and you'll find it works just fine. Us small BGE owners need to stick together, I think we may be a minority! :)

    Terry,
in the minority? Not at all! I have 4 BGEs and my small easily sees 60% of all my cooks! It's a wonderful size for most meals!

  • RRP,[p]Having four must give you a lot of options. Our son has a Large but the wife and I didn't think we would use that much capacity....Starting to think differnely, the small is absolutly awsome but it's frustrating the accessories to fit it are so limited. I can't find a small, non-stick basket for vegatables, shrimp, fishm etc. Found a nice bean pot, not cast iron, but it is plenty for the two of us. As I look into my crystal egg I see a large in the future.

    <p />Terry,
yes, 4 do give me flexibility. As for a non-stick for veggies etc I use this 11" diameter wok shaped unit that even with the two chrome handles is only 13" wide and fits into my small. It takes a little getting accustomed to depending on how full it is as it tends to somewhat choke the fire, but it does work. I bought it at Lowe's for under $10. As for versatility have you looked into Chubbies Grate Mates for a small BGE?

  • RRP,
Thanks for the info...I have a Lowes just up the street. I did look at the Grate Mates but opted to use a second level and my 8-1/2" pizza stone as a plate setter. Seems to work real well and was alot less.[p]Thanks Again!
