Mold? Cleaning?

edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
Does anyone else out there have a problem with mold growing inside your BGE? If I don't use it for a week or so, the inside is covered.
What's best, safest for next food grilled, way to clean?[p]Thanks

  • Kuhndog,
Burn it out with a hot fire. Do you have a cover on your Egg? A week is pretty quick for mold to grow. Where do you live?[p]TNW

  • Kuhndog, a week is a pretty short time to be "covered" in mold. If it wasn't for the short time, I would just say cook more often. If you don't have one, get a cover for your egg, and replace the daisy wheel with the rain cap when not in use. Those two should help keep the moisture in the egg down.

  • Kuhndog,
As the others have said, you can just burn the mold off. Good excuse for a steak dinner! I also let the Egg temperature rise about 50° or so higher then the temperature I was cooking at after I take the food off. This should burn off any residual moisture. Since I started doing that I haven't had a moldy Egg later.[p]HTH[p]Kelly

  • Kelly Keefe, I've never had mold in my egg....but then it has been 100*+ for a month and we're in a drought...hmmm, I suppose the environment could have something to do with it.
