I have a total of 4 butts I have the fire going and ready to go
I cant put the 2nd grid on the thermometer gets into the meat so I took off the grid and just put the largest butt on top of the other 3 butts now the thermometer clears the meat,is this ok to do and also which one do I put the probe in for temp reading is this ok to do? the largest on top or the side bottom one? DISH,
You can take the clip off that holds the thermometer in the egg. This will allow you to move the thermomter up so your butt will clear. Put your probe in the smallest butt so you can tell when to take it off. Then insert in the next smallest after the small one comes off. Good luck, Tom

    DISH,
What Tom said and or allign the butts with a gap between them running from front to back, the probe should fit into the gap. Good luck. -RP

  • BajaTom,
Thanks the temp is climbing very slow it is barely 140 but I will give it some more time. I have the plate setter in there then the pan of water then the grid with the three smaller butts and then a grid on top of those and the largest on top towards the back.
The enternal meat is 55 so I would say that is slowing it down just a tad right?
It was too smokey to change anything around different that the 3 on the bottom and the large on ontop , but my wife did put the probe into the bottom one, so I will x my fingers

DISH,[p]I have done 4 butts several times. I would add that every 4-6 hours I rotate the butts. With my Procom 4 They tend to get done more evenly that way. Also, when you rotate the butts make sure to move each butt around so that you expose the spots where the butts were touching.
