Replacing sliding air vent

I have noticed that the right (fixed) portion of the sliding air vent on my Large egg (bought used 3 mo ago) is pitted and rusting through. It must be an older egg since the vent is black, and I noticed that new eggs are stainless(?). Can I, should I, replace it? Is it a tricky job?[p]I really appreciate this forum, and have learned TONS from it. Last weekend did my first overnight pork butt, and it was truly awesome and wowed all my guests.

Yes you can. I put a SS one one a year or so ago after the original one gave up the ghost. When you get it check to make sure it comes with the spark arrestor. There are a couple little bolts that go through the bottom half of th egg. Just remove fire ring and fire box and undo the bolts and off it comes.

And seal it with silicon around the edges like the factory does for no air leaks.

Looks like mine has clear silicon. Don't think you need to go hitemp down there.
