Help: Jalapeno pepper poppers
River Griller
Posts: 37
I was wondering if anyone could give me the bacon wrapped jalapeno pepper popper directions. I saw the receipe last week somewhere but can't find it today. I thought it had sausage in it but the only ones I can find are with cheese.

River Griller,
Here is my tried and true version :[p]Atomic Buffalo Turds [p]• 12 Jalapeno's - fresh 2 -3 inches each
• 1 8 ounce pack of Cream Cheese
• 1 lb. Bacon (may not use all)
• 1 pack Smoked Cocktail Wieners
• Dizzy Pig Red Eye Express rub[p]Preparation Directions:
• Wash, remove stems and half jalapeno's lengthwise. Only cut the stem off, don't cut the end of jalapeno off to remove the stem. Remove seeds and veins (leave veins in if you would like a hotter ABT).[p]Fill jalapeno halves with cream cheese, top with a cocktail wiener and sprinkle with some Dizzy rub. Put the two halves together and wrap the whole thing with a piece of bacon. Secure the loose end of the bacon with a toothpick.
Sprinkle a liberal amout of Dizzy rub all over the surface of the bacon. Place ABT's on a rack over a drip pan.[p]Cooking Directions:
• Stabilize BGE at 350 degrees. Place drip pan and rack of ABT's on a raised grid and cook for about 40 minutes. Turn them over to crisp up bottom side of bacon and cook for an additional 20 minutes.[p]Optional : add apple, oak or hickory chunks to fire before placing ABT's in the egg.[p]

River Griller,[p]I follow the basic recipe Egret posted, but I leave out the cocktail sausage (healthier right?) and add 1 tsp of Raging River rub per 1/3 cup of the cream cheese. I let it melt into the cheese and add it to a plastic sadwich bag so it's easy to fill the peppers. I parboil my bacon for about 2 minutes so it cooks faster. I also make them "on the 1/2 shell" and use 1/2 a bacon strip per turd. (That reads funny.) I sprinkle Red Eye express on the outside. When they are nearly done, sometimes I put a little pepper jelly glaze on them.

<p />River Griller,[p]Here's a link to my ABT (Jalapeno Poppers) pictorial guide that you might find helpful. You will love them![p]EggNerd

River Griller,[p]When we do ABT's, it's not with sausages, but with leftover pulled pork instead. You can add practically any meat you want (chopped brisket, chicken, shrimp, crab, whatever strikes your fancy), or go without meat at all.[p]Tonia

Thanks for the help. I basically followed the ABT receipe from egret except I used regular hot sausage that I cooked first, mixed with the cream cheese and some sharp cheddar. It was alot of time but they turned out GREAT. I believe I will try the links with the rest of my jalapenos later in the week. Thanks again and happy grilling.

I have made plenty of ABTs but today I’m gonna try a 50/50 mix of pulled pork as described above… have my peppers cleaned and I am looking forward to the results!

Did 25% with just cream cheese and 75% with a mix of cream cheese and pulled pork. Will get them on an egg in a few hours once guests arrive.

Got caught by the zombie thread posting loop? Don't know if you knew, you have up to an hour to delete a post, similar to the Edit window.caliking said:.canuckland -
I think so. Tried deleting the repeat post(s), but no luck. Editing the repeat post to "." worked, though.Canugghead said:
