Well, I've jumped in with both feet and bought a large BGE couple of days ago here in OKC. I am trying to decide what my first atempt is going to be! I have been on this website ever since the Oklahoma Eggfest, and needless to say, I'm hooked!

Soonerfan,
Welcome, welcome, welcome!
I'm planning on a couple chicken breasts, ABTs, a couple of armadillo eggs, and smoking up a fattie for the evening! Whatever you do it will be great!

First thing I did was a Trex NY strip and it was freakin amazing. Easy first thing to grill, rivals fancy steakhouses.

Soonerfan,
I did fajitas for my first cook. They were fast and easy for a first time egger. Emboldened by that success the next night I did a large sirloin which rivaled some ribeye steaks for flavor and tenderness. I just marvel at how moist the meat is cooked in an egg compared to a gas grill.

EggRacer,[p]The wife wanted me to show her how to use the gasser, so she could cook hot dogs etc during the summer, so against my better judgement I fired it up, first time since I bought the egg and cooked some tri tip steaks...[p]The over whelming response was how come these are so chewy... [p]Afterwords she asked me when I was planning on using the gasser again, my response was never...

Soonerfan,
I would go with a couple nice filets and grilled shrimp. I marinate my steaks in EVOO with seasonings 1 hour at room temp before cooking.
Congrats and good luck.[p]Mike[p]catbreathe.gif

Soonerfan,
Welcome to Eggdom. Wise choice.[p]Were you at the Oklahoma Eggfest three weeks ago? If not, you missed a great opportunity to sample some great cooking and pick up some good tips on Egging. Make sure you schedule yourself for next years Oklahoma Eggfest. And if you get a chance come on down to the Texas Eggfest in a couple of weeks. The Big Green Egg and some Eggfests are the best time and money investment you can make.[p]Spring "Winding Down From Oklahoma and Winding Up For Texas" Chicken

TRex gets a little involved but the results are just mouth watering. Well worth the effort. [p]<IMG src= "http://www.js5racing.com/Pictures/NewFusion.jpg">

• Soonerfan,[p]From one newbie to another (I've got almost a week under my belt with my BGE) I would recommend some steaks. Watch the video first. 2 minutes per side, another 2 or more (depending on doneness preference) and they are great![p]Try a steak rub, too.[p]Flomster

I cooked ribeyes for my first cook... Can't go wrong with a good steak. Plus it is pretty sweet to get your brand new egg up to 750+ F... HAVE FUN!

• Soonerfan,[p]Welcome to the club. Hope you had a great time at the Oklahoma Eggfest. Mark your calendar on April 20-22, 2007 for the next one. I have to agree with many of the folks so far, you can't beat a nice juicy steak! Great way to break in the new toy. Have a good one.[p]Chris
