Friend's birthday coming up in a few weeks, men are hard enough to buy for but he's a BGE fanatic. So I figured this would be the place to get ideas for a gift ?! ?[p]

TheVisitor,[p]If it was my birthday, I wouldn't mind getting a remote readout polder type thermometer. It is a digital thermometer that sends a signal to a remote readout. It enables you to check cooking chamber temp or internal meat temp without have to get out of bed during an overnight cook or miss any of the football game while doing chickens.[p]They sell for about 65.00[p]Carl T

  • TheVisitor,[p]Any interesting barbecue rubs, sauces etc. Seems we all like to experiment. There are some great books out there if he doesn't have them yet, Smoke and Spice is one and The Barbecue Bible. Also the Barbecue Bible Book of Rubs, Sauces and Marinades is good, too. Barnes and Noble has plenty if you are near one or go to Amazon.com

    TheVisitor,
I received what I thought was a wicked good gift from a friend...three racks if babybacks! Only problem was it came with him standing there drooling waiting for them to cook! Now that I think about it I'm not so sure it was a 'gift'...whatever, I'll never forget that 'gift'![p]Carey

TheVisitor, Not knowing what range you want to spend is probably limiting responses...that coupled with the fact many of the regular posters are at the Eggfest this weekend. Also knowing how many eggcessories he already might have would help us help you. For instance does he have a BGE cover? Protecting his egg when not in use would be a great gift. Is he into pizza? Ideas: pizza stone and/or plate sitter - BGE versions combined would be around $55. Are his utensils mixed or matched? If not it so happens that Coleman has a line of utensils you can but singly or in sets and surspringly their shade of green in that product matches the BGE color. Price range $9 each to say $30 for a set. If "your friend" is a potential spouse then consider an addition of a small BGE or a mini, but now you're talking big dollars...of course, if the relationship went nowhere he wouldn't get his ring back and you wouldn't get little humpty back either! Good Luck!

    TheVisitor,
hello and welcome, since most of the 'regulars' are gone I will give you my two cents. If he doesn't have a plate sitter (from BGE) then that would be a good gift, or I would really have liked someone to have bought me the Maverick Remote Thermometer for my birthday. :-) You can now order them from Amazon.com for $40.00 and that price is very good.
So if he has all these already, say so, and maybe someone can still give you some help.
    good luck on your purchase.
    later,
    ChefRD[p]

  • Thanks for the ideas! Now I have to make my list and check with his, um, WIFE, to see what he actually has, if she knows! Looking into the $10-50 price range, give or take a few.[p]Thanks again you've been a big help. I'll keep checking back.[p]

It's not a cookbook, but it has a recipe section in the end.

    Howdy Visitor,
Great ideas so far. I really like Carey's suggestion of MEAT!! Give him some really nice cuts of meat that he might not buy otherwise. You won't have to worry if he already has the item. A few racks of good babybacks, a couple of gorgeous prime-grade filet mignons, or a big ol' prime rib should do the trick.....and should fit in nicely to your price range.[p]Stop back and hang out. If you visit enough, you will no longer be a visitor!
    Cheers

    Carl T,
My "remote" thermometer lives on my range hood because my "fancy" stove doesn't have a timer.
I use it not only as my basic timer but for the BGEs and ALSO as an alarm clock if I Have an extra-early date with some fish or an aircraft.... JCA
