The local schnucks has 10 lb boxes of riblets on sale for $10 a box. The meat man said they are like the ones you get at Applebees. Are these worth fooling with on the egg?. Would like some imput on how to do these bad boys. Thanks, Tom

    Bajatom,
Hey, great timing. I was going to ask my meat cutter the same thing. He had the day off. They are $10 here also. I've spent more on less. Might be worth a try.[p]Mike

Bajatom,[p]I can get both pork and beef riblets and they are great for a short cook. I think mine take around 3 or 4 hours total, the beef ones taking longer. You might as well cook all 10 pounds, maybe using several different glazes.[p]~thirdeye~

    thirdeye,
Are those pork riblets like the Applebee's? Any pics? My nephews love the size of those things and a ton of BBQ sauce. I know, they have a lot to learn.[p]Mike

Car Wash Mike,[p]No those were the beef ones, they look like this before cooking (a lot of bone shine, eh?) They are called Chuck Riblets in my neck of the woods. [p]The pork ones I get are strips about 3 fingers wide but the length of a slab. Both are good canidates for sauce because you can dry them out easily.[p]~thirdeye~

Car Wash Mike,[p]DEFINATELY worth it Mike! We love 'em. I haven't made any notes on tip or techs, I just do 'em like BB's and keep a closer watch on them.[p]Kelly

  • Yo Tom, The style of riblets that Applebee's sells are not actual rib bones themselves. They are bones from the spine. They are easy to cook and are pretty good eating. I have cooked several ten pound boxes of this style riblets and many pounds of the riblets off of the back rib portion of the hog.[p]Check out the link below for a more detailed post of mine concerning riblets. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, don't be afraid to ask.[p]Lager,[p]Juggy

    Bajatom,
Thanks for the info. Just got back on line. Major storm blew through the area. Took out the top of one of my trees. Killed a bunch of defenseless bushes on its way down.Lots of clean up. Will get a box later tonight. Thanks, Tom
