I am buying an egg and I wondered if it could stay outdoors on the porch without a cover in an area that is not covered?

ernie,[p]You'll get both answers here. I'm from the "Keep it Covered" camp.[p]It keeps it dry and pollen free for me.

ernie,[p]Ours have never been covered. We've had them several years now and had no problems at all.[p]Tonia
    :~)

  • ernie,
I ordered a cover when I got my egg a couple of years ago. Right now, its draped over the deck rail. I put it on during the winter when we were expecting snow. Otherwise, the egg just sits out there exposed to the elements, ever at attention and ready for the next cook!

ernie,[p] I figure if you pay for a Ferrari and don't have a garage to keep it in, you cover it. My BGE is covered.[p]Rich
  • ernie,
I cover my BGEs but, then, I used to cover my gas grill, too. My experience is BGE covers become stiff in winter and crack. Mine cracked across the daisy wheel (my gas grill covers used to crack, too.) I'm looking for a source for heavier, more durable covers.

Call BGE headquaters they have some new covers that are really nice.

ernie, When I hear that the weather is going to be especially rainy or the snow is going to fly, I cover my egg. Even with that, I have noticed a litte rust on my nest. One of these days, I ( a woman!!!) am going to buy some power tools and God forbid make my own wooden table. My cover is a little over a year old-- no cracks.

  • YB,
I want covers that won't crack in the winter and last longer than BGE and other branded vinyl covers. Perhaps a shop that makes boat covers or awnings will make covers for my BGEs. Good covers should be less expensive in the long run. [p]****

    terrafirmay,
I think if you check with BGE you will like the new covers...I plan on replacing all 7 of mine with the new vented better material this year.

    terrafirmay,[p]Take a look at

I haven't ordered from them yet so I can't speak to the quality or durability of the cover. However, I was in touch with the company and they sent me some material samples. The samples not only look good but feel like they will outlast any vinyl cover. The only downside is that these covers are pricey: $289 shipping included and delivery time about a month.
