Eggfest questions from a nOOb

Hi everyone,
My wife said she'll stay home with the baby if I want to go to Waldorf for my birthday. As exciting as this was to hear I got to wondering if I'd be the only single guy there wandering around with a 'talk to me please' tag...[p]Couple questions:
To cook or not to cook? If I say I'll cook something (grilled chicken and fish tacos) will they provide an egg?[p]If I don't cook, I'd be happy to hang out and help wherever needed. I don't want to be "that guy wandering around with nothing to do". Bringing a cooler of cold ones should help me be welcome at your table right?[p]Is it open to the public? If so how much food do people cook. Should I plan on 100 tacos or 25?[p]Are you guys really as kind and helpful in real life as on the forum? haha I think I know the answer to that one which is why I plan on attending.[p]Thanks for any tips/tales you can provide.

mast3quila,[p]Others will add their opinions, but I'll throw mine first. [p]I'd recommend just attending the first time. You'll get a feel for everything, meet a lot of great people and sample a lot of amazing food. The wife and I attended and just wandered for our first Eggtoberfest, then this past Eggtoberfest we cooked. [p]I don't think you can go wrong either way, but if you're alone, you'll fine the freedom to wander, ask questions, socialize, help, etc. gives you plenty to do.[p]enjoy your first fest. It will by no means be your last...

    Dos Huevos,
You might even want to bring the wife and child along. It shouldn't be overly warm. Eggors are great people and you'll probably meet even more with the instant "hey talk to me the guy with the baby". :>) The wife and I attended our first in Atlanta last year and are trying to figure out a way to attend another before the Atlanta one again. We are going to cook at our next event and probably bring along our rug rats....

  • dhuffjr,
I would like them to join me. I'll have to try and convince her. It would be asking a lot of her to watch Kylie while dad goes to Capt Billys though.

    mast3quila,
I didn`t cook at my first fest, but kinda wished I would have. Yes, Eggs are provided.[p]You wont be wandering "with nothing to do" You`ll be to damn busy eating to have nothing to do. If you do bring a cooler full of beer save it for the afterparty, as beer, sodas, and water are provided for registered attendees.[p]I wouldn`t say it is open to the public, as you would have to pay to get on, but people can and do just walk up. How much to cook is up to you, I believe there was more than 150 people last year. I warn people new to the fests, don`t EAT all the food, merely "sample" as you will be so full by the end of the day you will hurt.[p]Are we really as kind and helpful...LOL....where else can you go where people pay good money to,travel to,and attend an event, then spend another $100 or so on food to just give it away...You are in for the time of your life...and as other said, by all means bring the wife and kid, many people do, this is still a family oriented passion....HTH[p]Wess

mast3quila,[p]I'd say cook. It's a whole day and you can only eat so much, cooking gives you something to do. I'd say cook an egg full. Maybe feed a couple dozen samples.
    See you there.

mast3quila,[p]If you're debating whether to cook, DO IT! We, like you, debated that first time and all day long, I was wishing I was cooking, LOL! I think I "helped" by flipping some things, just to get the urge out...[p]Yes, folks are just as friendly face-to-face as they are here. We've met some of our most treasured friends there and are REALLY sad that we aren't going to make it this year (that $2,200 income tax payment that I have to send 2 weeks before really hurts!).[p]Go, eat, party, and have a blast![p]Tonia

mast3quila,[p]Last year I did exactly as you suggest you might do. I attended alone, met heaps of people, didn't cook, but rather ate all day. Learned heaps. Really enjoyed the entire event.[p]Called my wife with a running account of the event and showed her the photos when I got home. She has been planning on coming to this Waldorf for the entire year![p]Oh! And like Wess said, save the beer for the after party![p]See ya there![p]DD

QBabe,[p]Sorry you won't be there! I'm bringing my better half and was hoping that you, by example, might encourage her cooking on the BGE! She's a bit timid around it right now.[p]Maybe we'll get to FL next year! I sure wish we had the opportunity to attend this year.[p]DD

SSN686,[p]Yeah, I know. It was the first Eggfest we every attended and it's such a bummer. [p]Maybe between now and then, the medical situation will improve and we'll get it worked out to come, but you guys are a cooking machine and will represent the Florida Eggers well![p]Tonia

mast3quila, I attended last year and was by myself on Friday night. The meet and greet was a wonderful time to meet everyone before we got on the bus to go to Cpt. Billy's Crab Shack. I felt very welcome and had a great time. On Saturday morning by brother was able to meet me and we attended the fest together. If you come alone-- you won't be for long. This crowd is great!! Carl and I are going to cook this year, and it will be just toooooo much fun. Mr. Saucy Sue is only interested in my cooking-- He calls my facination with the forum and all of my recipe colliction as my "addiction"!! Better to be addicted to my BGE that to other things!!

QBabe,[p]That was one of the cooler moments in my life. We get a call saying "Mr. Cornfed, there are two ladies here for you." I replied, "Only two?"[p]Heehee :)
