daisy wheel air leak

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
I have had my lg. egg 2 weeks and I notice that on my daisy wheel damper that smoke comes out from under it where it sets on the egg. should there be some type of gasket there?

chrisb, there are multiple answers to your question - I mean everything from turning it to find a sweet spot where it doesn't leak - to placing a small amount of cheap gasket inside - to grinding the inside of Miss Daisey (if you're into that) - to not worrying about it as it doesn't hurt anything! I happen to subscribe to the latter! BTW th2 BGE is very forgiving so please don't worry about a tiny wart!

  • chrisb,[p]Mine did that at first but as I began to get a nice build up of smoke goo it seals all the gaps nicely.[p]Aloha,[p]Greg

chrisb,[p]Seems to me if you want a totally shut airtight seal you would use the rain cap and not the daisy wheel. I figure the daisy wheel has some airspace even closed, but not enough to care.[p]mShark

    guava greg,
    same for me.
that smoke-goo is GOLD in my mind. lots of questions here about how to clean the daisy, etc. which boggle me frankly. when done with a cook, i take the daisy and toss it in the egg with the rain cap on top.[p]as it cools, any liquidy stuff drips off the daisy, and the daisy is left with a self-made gasket of sooty stuff.[p]helps make my temp regulation more predictable too, i think.
since i don't have any stray leaks. whatever is visibly 'open' on the daisy is the vent. i can even snuff the fire with the daisy...
