Has anyone had a dual grate setup using the Chubster's gratemates?[p]Mike

  • Car Wash Mike,
I've got the GrateMates but haven't used them yet. I was hoping to do something with them this week but ran out of time doing nothing.[p]From what I can tell about the design, they are going to be pretty handy to have around.[p]Spring "Crispy Golden" Chicken

    Car Wash Mike,
    Yes.

  • Bobby-Q,
Get the same size cooking grate? Just got off the phone to my dealer, small now has a cast iron cooking grate?[p]Mike

  • Car Wash Mike, How hot can you get the cast iron before you chance cracking it. I'm think right their at the lump.

    <p />Sandbagger,
This is my cast iron that I made for my small and it has seen 750 many times and I find no indication of heat stress. Note however that my edges are not restricted like the circle around the one sold for a large.

  • RRP,[p]Where do you purchase? This is not the BGE cooking grate. The BGE cooking grate can match the egg. If the finish can be changed from black paint to porcelain, it will be a good choice.[p]Woodenkids

    Car Wash Mike,
Yep you use the small grid in the bottom as well.[p]No to the small cast iron grid, well not from BGE anyway.

    woodenkids,
I cut that grate out of this rectangle. BTW that black shine is not black paint. Instead that sheen was seasoning the cast iron circle the same way as a cast iron cooking utensil using heat and Crisco. I'm not a metalurgist but I doubt they can economically or successfully apply a porcelain coating to a cooking grate.

Shoot me an email if you want more info on where to buy that rectangle and a basic "how to" instructions that worked for me.
