Griddled Flank Steak and Spaghetti Squash
Spring Chicken
Posts: 10,255
I hope I remember how to post multiple photos. Bear with me.[p]Our diet called for flank steak so we thought we would griddle it instead of grill it. We have a round cast iron griddle that is ribbed on one side and flat on the other. We used the flat side and placed it on sandbagger's wok frame. Works perfectly.[p]http://images.snapfish.com/345;86:<:fp338>nu=3236>7;3>842>WSNRCG=32334:56;443<nu0mrj[p]I got the griddle hot, probably up around 450 to 500° and threw the meat on, turned it a couple of times and then added the spaghetti squash.[p]http://images.snapfish.com/345;86:<:fp337>nu=3236>7;3>842>WSNRCG=32334:56;964<nu0mrj[p]Sliced it up and served it immediately.[p]http://images.snapfish.com/345;86:<:fp336>nu=3236>7;3>842>WSNRCG=32334:56;964;nu0mrj[p]Other than being a little tough it was pretty good. Might try it with a more tender piece of meat next time. The squash was good too.[p]Spring "Maybe Some ABT's For Lunch" Chicken

Morning Spring Chicken:[p]That spaghetti squash is a quite tasty item. We discovered it by accident while at the Waldorf Eggfest last May. We had gone to the store to get some normal yellow squash, but they didn't have any. We saw this other, but larger, yellow squash looking item (spaghetti squash) and decided to try it. We didn't realize what we had and initially tried cutting it into cubes to throw in the wok with the zuccini and mushrooms, but it was too hard to slice very well. I was able to cut into 4 sections lengthwise and then grilled them for about thirty minutes to soften them up before cutting into cubes to go with the rest of the stuff. Since then we have had it a couple of times and really like it.[p]How did you prepare this version?[p]Have a GREAT day!

SSN686,
The normal method is to slice in half lengthways, scrape out the seeds, place both halves cut side down in about an inch of water and cook for about an hour on a low to medium heat. The steam softens the squash so that you can scrape it out with a fork thereby making it look like very fine speghetti. You can add seasonings but we like it with just some spray I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and some salt. [p]This was some leftovers and we added to the griddle to warm it up. The fluids and seasonings from the flank steak added a bit of flavor and the griddle added a nice color. It's very good squash.[p]Spring "Playing Around With Mother Nature" Chicken

Morning Spring Chicken:[p]I seem to recall that one time we split it in half lengthwise, put it skin side down on the grid with some butter and cinnamin (I think), then cooked at about 300 until it was soft. Then took it out and scrapped out the insides for a great side dish.[p]Have a GREAT day!

Spring Chicken,
ive done the spagetti squash a few times , but i just threw the whole thing in with out cutting it. after it softened up and looked done i took it out and cut it open . it came out great, ill have to try it your way and see how it works. there was a post a ways done about salmon with a fry batter. i recently saw some done with a light tampura batter deep fried and laid out on some spagetti squash with a soy based vinagarette sprinkled over it. need to try it soon as the picture looked great, i think it would be good with some salmon or small slices of tuna steak
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -

Spring Chicken,
I like to "grill 'n griddle" flank steak. I do the flank steak directly on the coals a la Alton Brown. I put it in foil to let it rest while I do the fajita veggies in a skillet. When the veggies are done, I dump them into a bowl and then slice the meat and finish it in the skillet to pick up all that oil and onion and pepper and garlic.[p]TNW

Spring Chicken,[p]Wow.....what a coincidence. I saw a 6 pack in Costco this weekend. Wasn't sure if it was a tough meat or not.[p]Gotta buy some this weekend. [p]Thanks,

The Naked Whiz,
I'm not the type to cook directly on the coals but I've never tried it either. Although I have been known in another life to pick up a piece of meat that fell off the spit into the fire, dust it off and eat it like there was no tomorrow. I like flank steak cooked as fajitas better than the way we did it but the diet recipe called for doing it this way. I also wanted to try the griddle. Worked just like I thought it would. $9.00 I think. Just one more accessory that works with the Egg. Will it ever end??? LOL[p]Spring "Gottageaux Make Some ABT's" Chicken

Spring Chicken,
I found them out there, floating around the internet. YOu need to take better care of your photos and not let them get away. The photo catcher will find them, take them to the photo pound, and if you don't claim them, they might get euthanized. You might want to chip your photos so if someone finds them, they can contact you. WOOF!!!! LOL~
