  • egglooker,
I don't own an extra large (yet) but my thoughts are pretty much the same as with any size BGE... there's a learning curve depending upon how much previous BGE cooking experience you already have. Another question one should consider is just how much need there is for an extra large. It might be that two larges could better serve you and your family. Or a large and a small (like I have). A lot depends on budget, location, frequency, etc. If you are like most of us, no matter what size you get you will soon be thinking of getting a second one, and a third,,, Hope this helps.[p]Spring "Foghorn Leghorn" Chicken

    egglooker,
I have the XL and it is just as easy to cook on as the large with alot more grid space.

  • When I was looking to see what size egg I would first buy I took the advice from most everyone in the forum which was buy the largest one your budget and space can afford. SO, I went ahead and got an XL and have not looked back on my decision at all since. It's great for really big items (ie. brisket, butt, ribs...). I will add that the only issue I have with it is that I find it a bit wasteful to fire up the XL (which takes a lot of lump) if I just want to cook a single steak or a handful of wings.

How did I solve this delimma? I bought another egg for just that purpose.

Seriously, go for the XL if you can swing it. You'll be very pleased.
