L vs XL

edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
I am ready to buy our first BGE. I had my mind made up on the Large
(18.5") and then found out there is a XL (22"). Is the XL worth the extra $300?
Thanks

    Jack,
To add to your difficulty in deciding, the XL is 24".

  • Jack,
    It's definitely worth the money if you want/need a 24" grid. [p]TNW

    Jack,
I have some spare ribs on the XL right now. I really like the extra room on there. It makes doing ribs much easier as well as allows for a ton more space when doing entertaining cooking "burgers and chicken for the masses". Either way you end up, you will be happy. Happy future egging.[p]-Squeeze

  • Jack,[p]If you intend to slow cook ribs or large amounts of food at one time, bigger is better. This way when you put the plate setter down to cook indirect you have more surface area available that isn't near the heat coming up the sides of the egg. [p]Howard

    Jack,
Go for the XL or you will always wish you did. I have both and love both. If I had to have just one, however, it would be the XL. tstick

    Jack,
It would be nice to have a 24 inch grid on large qty. cooks, but then again, it would take a lot of lump to heat that XL up for two steaks or a couple of Cornish Hens.... Best scenario would be have an XL and a Medium I think, but I'm really partial to my large.
If money is no object, and you've got the space, get both. To pick one for versatility I'd say go with the large, you can cut ribs in half to cook. A large has suited me so far.... tough decision though, let us know what you choose!

  • Bobby-Q,
Man, I've only been hanging around y'all for one afternoon and you are already starting to cost me money.
I'm going shoping tomorrow....I'll let you know what happens.

  • Jack,
I have also been debating the very same question, I'm leaning towards a large since I don't see many accesories or even a table for the XL.[p]Anyone seen a table for XL, daisy wheel, cast iron grates or even a cover?

  • I brought my XL just over a week ago and I also purchased the daisy wheel and cover for it through my dealer. Haven't looked for the cast iron grate yet. It's my first BGE so I can't compare it to any other size but I am very happy with it.[p]Jim
