DR BBQ 3-1-1 Rib question

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
I'm an hour or so into ribs. Used Dr. BBQ's 3-1-1 method with DP TS rub. I am sitting here at the hoda dealer getting my oil changed reading the forum and realized that I forgot the drip pan!! The set-up is inverted plate setter and rib rack with ribs oriented verically. There is no drip pan between the inverted plate setter and the grid. Will the drippings burn and add bad flavor or should I not worry about it?[p]Thanks [p]Ed

Ed in TX,[p]Personally, I do not use a drip pan. I do cover the plate setter with foil so I can dispose of the drippings easily.[p]Woody

Ed in TX,[p]I didnt' use a drip pan the first time I made these. It was a huge mess but the ribs were to die for. Worth having my platesetter trashed. Then, at a later date, lo and behold, the dog licked that sucker clean. I never would have thought it possible it would ever be clean again.[p]A new platesetter if cheaper than a dog but I already had the dog.[p]Gwen
  • Ed in TX,[p]nice guy that I am, if you'll give me your address I'll come by and take those ribs off of your hands and dispose of them properly...lol...in all seriousness, you may make a bit of a mess without a drip pan, but the ribs will definitely not be adversely affected
  • Ed in TX,[p]Yes it was (is) a mess, but the ribs were AWESOME! [p]Thanks,[p]Ed
