Remote thermometers

I have a remote thermometer that I stick in large cuts of meat, but I was looking for a remote that would give me a reading on the temperature of the BGE itself during fire-up. Is it possible to simply stick the probe through the thermometer hole in my egg and watch it come up to heat while I'm inside? I don't mind standing by the BGE and watching the gauge, but there have been times when I went inside to work on a side dish only to come out and find my BGE at 600 degrees or so!! (or, worse, not coming to heat as fast as I planned!) Anyone?
