Need a whole chicken recipe...

edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
I bought a chicken roost to try a whole chiken on the BGE. I've never tried this before and am looking for some advice. Any help on ingredients and cook times? Thank for the help!

<p />War Piggle,[p]Good choice!..... This is a very easy cook on the egg. [p]First get the egg established with a clean burning fire and stabilized between 325 and 350 dome temp. Give the fire a good 45 minutes to build up to this temp and burn off excessive smoke.[p]While the fire is getting to temp, rub the chicken down with your favorite chicken rub... if you're not sure what to put on the chicken, start with salt and pepper and if you're feeling adventurous, then add a little garlic powder, onion powder, paprika etc., in small amounts until you get a flavor you like.
Stick the chicken on the chicken setter and make sure the top part of the setter pokes out of the chicken's neck.... this will make sure the hot air flows through the chicken like a chimney and cook from the inside as well as the outside.
Place a round of foil, just slightly larger than the footprint of the chicken, on the center of the grill and then the chicken on top.... this will keep the bottom of the chicken from burning.
Close dome and cook for about an hour to hour and half. Don't open the dome for at least the first 45 minutes... if you're too curious, take off the daisy wheel and peek from above.
Check with a thermometer for doneness toward the end.
Very easy and very good.... good luck![p]John
