Fire Ring Removal?

I've noticed over the past few weeks in a lot of pictures that the fire rings aren't in the eggs. Is this due to fire rings cracking or just experience that it's an easier way to cook and stack food? I've noticed that my fire ring now has a crack in it straight through on one side.

    Stacking food for the most part. A lot of folks had to remove the ring so the Thanksgiving Birds would fit. Don't worry abou the crack in the ring, happens all the time. If you just can't handle it, mother ship will send you a new one if the crack was cause by heat.
