Hey All,[p]Sorry if this is a repetative post but I've searched the archives and most of the posts dealing with the subject are unavailable on the server for some reason. Anyway, here goes - Where do you find fire bricks? I live in a small (very small) town in Southern IL and the local shops don't have any. The building supply shops dont have any either. Is there a chain ie Lowes or something like that that carries them? I've been reading about how they help cook the meat more evenly and allow for drip pans etc. and am intrigued.[p]Sorry again if this is repetative but my searches so far have been in vain. Thanks.[p]Troy

    sprinter,
Let dem fingers do da walkin. Check your yeller pages for your closest brickyard and call them. They probably carry them for under a buck each. Get extras, they break when dropped or knocked over. I only have the thin ones, but will buy some thick ones also next time. The thin ones handle evrything I have done including pizza.[p]Good luck

    sprinter,
Another place to look is Ceramic Supply Store, especially one that has a lot of Kiln Supplies.
They may even have plate sitters.[p]RhumAndJerk[p]

    <p />sprinter,
Its been a lonnnggg time since I was in Mt Vernon (SIU-C 1970) but I sure remember the place. I have no idea where you can get them locally but call a few fireplace stores as they are used as a liner for the "zero" clearance models. Then try some brickyards - but these are kiln fired bricks not your normal red brick. Eggspect to pay under $3 each.[p]

    sprinter,
As already stated, I bought mine at a local brickyard less than 5 miles from my house. I paid 79 cents per brick. You won't need any more than 5 or 6 of them.

Tim M,[p]Not a graduate of SIU but spent a lot of time there with some of my buddies who did. I went to the US Naval Academy for a couple of years then finished up at U of I. Round about way to get an education but I had to try the USNA thing, glad I did but also glad I didn't finish. My brother graduated from SIUC in about '82 in computer science. He loved the school. You should take a trip back to SIU, the campus has changed a ton and if youre into outdoorsy stuff, the area around S. IL is awesome for hiking, camping etc. Thanks for the information and pictures on the brick, I found them at a local chimney sweep shop, good information and much appreciated.[p]Troy
