getting started
Today is the day! I'm going to fire up the beast. Any advice is appreciated. I tightened the bands until they touch. That should do it I think. I thought I would do a chicken on the vertical rack. Can I use a foil pan under it so that I don't have to wash the regualar one? On pizza, will a thin pizza stone work, or will it break? I has been interesting to read your forum for the last week getting ready for this. Thanks

Newbee,
V-rack works just fine and I make a drip pan out of aluminum foil. Thin stone will work though the thicker ones distribute the heat more evenly. Enjoy

Newbee,[p]My wife has given me an aluminium pan (had to requisition it from the galley and sign for it in triplicate). I line it with foil so clean up is just wadding the foil up and tossing it.[p]There have been a dozen posts here in the last year about cheap pizza stones cracking in the high temps of the Egg. Do yourself a favor and let the wife have that stone and get a BGE pizza stone - call them if you need to. Its a good stone and it will last. I have pictures of it on my site - linked below. Go to the MSC pictures section.[p]Tim

Newbee,
My cheap-o thin pizza stone finally cracked in half last weekend, the result of my taking it out before it had cooled. So it wasn't the high temp in the Egg, but rather the uneven cooling by laying it on-end outdoors. I'll use it anyway as a layer under my nice thick stone if I need it.
Cheers,
Gretl
