Therm Install Question...??

Hi folks,

I just received my Tel-Tru thermometer and have a quick question.

First, its the 5" 200-1000F one and it has this metal "do-hickey" on the back that will slide up and down the probe. It looks kind of like a handle, but I guess could also serve as a spacer between the dial and the surface of the BGE.

Do I remove this before inserting it into the BGE or does it matter?

I have a Large BGE, by the way.
