Broken egg last week

Like DS my top fell off and broke a week ago. I called Atlanta and was informed the cost of a new large top was $99.00 plus shipping. My dealer (Hearth & Home, Hampton Falls N.H.) sold me one at cost $70.00. They told me that probably someone had tried to close the dome without using the auto-lock and that pulled the dome out of the band. The next time it was lifted the dome crashed. I did not get silicone with my egg, but I did glue the new dome in with high temp silicone frome Rutland.

tims, Mt regrets to you too sir, and wise move on the silicon band aid. Only thing that can happen now is all the stress will be applied to the bottom casting thru the autolock mechanism, and bingo..new lower casting. Only one operator is permitted at my abode..thats me. Period. And no problems.:-) Oh..I did flip my ceramic dome top cap into the rocks..sigh.

Char-Woody,[p]My thanks to you sir for your advice when I first got my egg. I was using the rain cap to cover the chimney while I was cooking. You advised against it and to this day I use a firebrick or a piece of a broken pizza stone. I've flipped these off of the top more times than I care to admit to but I sure thank you for saving my good rain cap.[p]Troy
