Just bought a sirloin tip roast at Sam's Club. Is that the same as a Tri-Tip? If so, how is the best way to fix it?[p]Thanks.[p]Uncle Phil

Uncle Phil,
I'm pretty sure it isn't, but I can't give you any advice on cooking it. Good luck, though!

Uncle Phil, tri top is off the chuck. sirloin tip is the end of the sirloin. the sirloin tip is rather dry and tough as it has very little fat. crock pot is the best for the sirloin tip

Uncle Phil,
It is not the same but you can cook on the egg. You need to cook indirect at 350 flippling very often until internal temp of 135 pull off and slice very thin. I take mine back to the store and they shave it for me.[p]Mike

The Naked Whiz,
There are a lot of people that use those at Chiefs games. I just look at them and laugh. Then, they see my eggs and laugh also.[p]Mike

im curious too,...are there any other names for a tri-tip at ones local meat purveyor? I know i had to learn all the names for a pork butt.

benny, Trianglecut or Tri_tip are the 2 names. The sirloin Tip is not anything near it. I do mine low and slow till the center is 125, I remove it, let it reast about 15 minutes and then sear. Always a loved by the family[p]

smokindad, Tri Tip is bottom sirloin. It is not from the chuck as
someone said. It is well worth seeking out. If you can't find it your
butcher can order it for you. It is also great cut into steaks.

smokindad,[p]Here is a link showing the tri tip is from the sirloin section. Hope it helps. Go to the bottom of the page.[p]Regards,
New Bob

Sorry,
Should have said tri tip is from the loin section not sirloin. My mistake.[p]Regards,

Uncle Phil,[p]I don't think it's necessarily destined for the crock pot. I've done a few sirloin tips on the egg. Marinate for a while. Cook to med. rare. Good sliced very thin.
