patio cover and ceiling fan
Shelby
Posts: 803
Bit of a different question...[p]We recently moved to a house with a nice patio but no cover. In our previous house, I had a patio with a cover, but no ceiling fan. Tomorrow, I'm having a patio cover installed and will have a beam for a ceiling fan. I was just talking to a friend who said the air from the ceiling fan will greatly affect the temp of the egg. Does anyone else have a patio cover with ceiling fan and how does the air circulating affect the temp and/or temp control?[p]My original thought was to center the ceiling fan. Now I'm leaning toward the egg's at one end of the patio; table and chairs at the other end with the fan near the end with the table.[p]Thanks!

[ul][li]Ceiling Fan?[/ul] -
Shelby,
I have a ceiling fan under my patio and it wasn't the fact the air made a difference in temp but rather kept swooshing the smoke around me. In my opinion the ceiling fan is ok when your not egging. I now use a pedestal fan in the corner and now really looking at installing an exhaust fan near my cooking station to pull out the smoke and cause a draft of air circulating under my patio without the smoke.Hope I didn't confuse ya.

I have a ceiling fan on my patio. No problems at all with the Egg. We've used the patio a lot more since putting the fan in a few years ago.

Shelby,
i can bet your friend dosent own an egg and has no idea what the isulating qualities of ceramics are. if this was a metal (uninsulated) grill i would agree if the fan was blowing copious amounts of air over the grill, i this situation he is mistaken. try a portable fan to decied where you want to put the celing fan.

Shelby,
We have a covered patio with ceiling fan; no problems at all. Most ceiling fans can be switched so the airflow is "up" rather than "down". You may want to try this, if downdraft makes the patio too smokey.[p]Ken

Shelby,
ive done low and slows in northeasters in new england. 0 degrees, 40 mile per hour winds and lots of snow. the egg doesnt care whats going on outside and just cooks away. a little fan is not going to effect its performance, just make sure that the smoke doesnt effect yours
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
