Side Table Questions

When I bought my XL many years ago, I added the 'nest' and the side tables.

Those side tables are now a mess.   

Has anyone replaced their tables with something besides wood?    Some alternatives are too heavy and others may not take the beating of regular cooks......

I may just machine sand and finish with a coat of resin....depending on what I see when I sand.
I could start all new, but need 1/4" or slightly thicker exterior plywood.....A good grade without voids and a finishable 'good' side....

What have other owners done?    I won't use any plastic but would consider tile except for my inability to cut properly......
