Brunswick Stew

I grew up in the south but never had Brunswick Stew in my life, so I have no idea why it struck me to make a few weeks ago. So I did a little digging on the forum and found a few threads to get me started. Finally settled on Southern Soul's recipe.  This is just after everything is assembled and needs a few hours at a simmer. I'll report back thoughts and family's feedback.

Looks great! Almost always need more black pepper...LOL.  Cook mine on the egg to add a little smoke, the longer it cooks the better it will be.
I drink cheap beer so I can afford good bourbon.

Looks delicious! Never heard of this despite having been to the South a couple of times as a tourist.
I learn so much from this forum

I thought about the egg route, but smoked the butt yesterday and it's been nothing but cold the last several days. I have zero plans to venture outside today.

Just about eating time. From the tasting samples, think it may be a winner.

Thanks for the tip about cooking longer.

Definitely a winner.  That being said I have nothing to compare it to  taste wise.  I think it's supposed to be a bit spicy but my crew can't handle too much so I dumbed it down. You're supposed to add hot sauce at the end but i was out.  Just ended up using the Carolina BBQ sauce I bought for it cause it had a bit of heat. Serve it up with some crackers and it's good eating in a cold day.

Brunswick stew isn’t spicy per se so you probably got it right.
  • Looks like you are on the right track with it.
We’ve done Guiness Stew in the Egg in a cast iron Dutch oven, but never Brunswick stew.
waiting to see the final results
  • great recipe choice and thanks for sharing
