Rutland Food Safety

I've been gone a while, got back to my egg the other day and it was quite moldy inside.  Did my first "clean burn" after 13 years.  It came out quite nice, destroyed the 13 year old gasket (as expected), but unfortunately cracked my fire ring.  Now a two piece ring  



I was going to go with the BGE gasket, but decided to go with a Rutland from Home Depot because appearently it only needs to go on the base.  After reading some old posts on here about food safety with Rutland I was having second thoughts.  The new ones at Home Depot look a lot different and are self adhesive.  The new packaging states "completely food safe".  

Any thoughts or advice??

i am still rolling with a kamado joe gasket that was sent out free to whoever asked for one. been probably 8-10 years?  

if you go with the rutland self adhesive, be sure to post a follow up if the adhesive fails

I need to be careful here as people might think I "have a vested interest" (if you call a non-profit 23 year service a vested service) - but anyway that white Rutland that you are talking about is thin and therefore needs to be installed on both the dome and the base. That is why there is such a long piece in that package. Also it is applied using a 3M brand 2 sided adhesive tape.

The source here and has been for close to forum eternity is @RRP.  He is a Rutland gasket guru.  He will answer any concerns.
Regarding the proverbial clean burn-The downsides, as you experienced outweigh the upsides cataloged here for me. 
If you somewhat frequently run a hot and fast cook (400*F or higher for me) then I don't see the need for the burn.  FWIW-

Got my gasket from @RRP several years ago and haven't looked back. One of the best things I've done.

JUST got mine today in the Mail!     I haven't opened the bag yet.
Tomorrow will be the trip to the autoparts store for some Permatex Ultra Copper.....

And what a business model.    'Send what you wish' is OK, if I were sending money to a large corp, but
I don't want to rip off RRP.......Shipping alone was 9$ or so.....
So what's right?    35$?    
I'll admit my 'price' nose is way out of wack.   5$ for a loaf of bread is nutty.....But a silver 1/2 dollar will STILL buy 2 with change.....
Maybe I should just send RRP a Silver Dollar?   Silver is nearly 50$ per ounce these days......

I cracked my ring when doing a burnout run also.     Gave pieces to a welder friend who uses it as a 'back shield' keeping spatter down and helps safety.......
The flame coming out the top was clear / blue / red and looked more like a jet exhaust.   Temps wrapped the dome thermometer back around and started a 2nd lap......Crazy....
Ring was replaced instantly by my dealer.....
