it begins ...

4 on day one, 24 on day two.  About 150 to 200 on the tree this year.

not really a brandy guy, but pear pie, grilled with ice cream, grilled with blue cheese.

My mom used to preserve pears in canning jars.  This is a bumper crop so you never know.

I like a nice pair too  =) Wish we planted a couple of fruit trees when we bought this house 3.5 decades ago.

we planted a pear, an apple in the back and a plum in the front. that would be about 13 or 14 years ago. The plum caught a fungus and we cut it down. The apple suffered until some competing landscape trees were removed and I gave it a couple of good prunings. now it is loaded up and starting to challenge the pear.

Squirrels get the best of my apple tree, they take a bite or two and then my dog eats them as they rot if I don't get to them first.

Color me jealous, I love pears.

Color me very jealous. I'd love to have fresh fruit from our own trees.

When we moved into the house, I asked caliqueen to plant some fruit trees (she loves to garden, but I don't want to eat flowers). She said they would take too long... 10+ yrs... to bear fruit.

And, here we are 15yrs later. Without any fruit trees!

sounds like a good enough reason for a visit.

Of course pears need 2 weeks on the counter before they reach perfect ripeness, only to pass that stage 20 minutes later. so right now they are rocks.

This was my first thought also. Either us Canadians are absolute comedic masters, or we have tunnel vision. Possibly, both.

Just too polite to not laugh at each others wit.

Wow, so not only are pears shaped like avocados…  :|

That reminds me. I found Raichlen’s cookbook on grilling vegetables in the discount section of the bookstore. I paid $5.50.
