Smash burgers - plancha fail!
UTH
Posts: 21
Making smash burgers last week and I had a nearly disastrous failure.
I've got the half moon plancha setup on the conveggtor basket as it should be, but when I came to 'smash' the burger, perhaps I pressed too hard, but the plancha became unseated and fell down the basket, if that makes sense?
I had it all setup properly, so wondering if this is something that has happened to anyone else? I can only assume that theres only so much pressure the basket can take before it flexes a little and the plancha takes a tumble? Or maybe I pressed at the wrong angle. Not entirely sure, but I nearly lost the burgers entirely but managed to rescue the situation, but obviously not great with everything being very hot!

I have had that happen with the cast iron half grate on the XL now I always set one or both of them on top of the regular grate for added stability unless I am also trying to cook directly on the coals. When I do that now I am just careful not to topple the half grate set on the fire ring.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting. The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president. -
Almost bought one years back. I take it you are not enamoured?xfire_ATX said:I have this thing I put on my grate... for the 2X times I tried it.

Before they made that round one I bought the rectangular one they made. It fit just perfectly down inside my Large sitting on the grate. I used it a few times just fixing bacon and eggs. Shortly afterward they came out with that round one, but I never saw the need to spend more money for one. I have it somewhere in my basement out of sight to keep from reminding me of another 4 Jacksons I wasted!GrateEggspectations said:

You know - here's another one hit wonder - at least it didn't cost much!

Oh man, I have one of those things hidden around here somewhere. A brilliant feedback idea, but the slightest breeze just threw it into convulsions.RRP said:

For those unfamiliar, this thing was basically a damper mounted to a coil-spring thermometer. If the exhaust got too hot, the spring would close down the damper, regulating the flame; if it got too cold, the damper would open back up! It took some fiddling to get it dialed in, but once it was, it worked well. AS LONG as there were no breezes or shade/sunlight changes; then it "deviated", wildly."First method of estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him."
