can't go to the US site

If I go to biggreenegg.com I get redirected to biggreenegg.ca. Not cool. There are articles and tips on that site which I used to reference.

And since I live about 20 minutes from the border with a mailing address there, I sometime buy in the states and import it myself (ie: declare and pay duty). For some items on the .com site which are not on the .ca site I imagine that works for many people.

There is not even a click to change to the .com site if I want to. @HannahGreeneEgg - you guys are making it hard for no apparent reason. For the tips and info alone, please restore access to the .com site.

  • just looked and i am seeing the same thing here from atlanta usa on my mobile. it was doing that a week ago temporarily. mentioned on the “where’s the link to the forum from main page” thread. it started working again at some point during the week.

so i think the auto redirect to canada site is something broken and not intentional. maybe some vpn browser location manipulators (for watching regional or uk sports of course) can test if the .com is accessible from anywhere.

Wow eggs have gotten expensive. A large in Canada is almost twice as much as a large in USA.

I've written a few pieces of URL rewrite code for web pages, some dating back to 1997 or so. It's purposeful and they can serve a great purpose in the right situation. But they don't happen by accident - someone inserted this geo-locative code into the BGE main website. Please let people go to the site they want to visit. I also go to the European BGE site intentionally for their recipes.

Each BGE site around the world has quality content available only on that site. Please don't explore auto-directing people to the site you think that they should visit. Perhaps a confirmation pop-up (because we need more pop-ups :) ) as the site you want to visit, but please turf the auto redirection code.

    Thanks.

I just shared this thread with our Omnichannel Director so him and his team can look into this - thanks for bringing to my attention!

absolutely - thank you @HannahGreeneEgg for getting someone to look at this.

Today I tested some of my old links to recipes (for example https://biggreenegg.com/recipes/honey-roasted-black-pepper-corn) and I get to see the recipe page for an instant and then I get the main biggreenegg.ca page.

You have removed access to a dozen or more recipes I used to use. Sure, biggreenegg.ca has some recipes (multigrain bread is certainly going to happen) but the two sites have different recipes so please don't block the site with helpful geolocation redirection.

you may want to put the urls in the wayback machine for what you want to save.  i bet it has most of them. then archive them to pdf or print or if there is some recipe storage app that users control the storage.

maybe HQ will restore all recipes, maybe not. “the internet is forever” usually only applies to people digging up dirt on social media.

well, @HannahGreeneEgg it is getting there ...

Going to a recipe link on biggreenegg.com no longer redirects to the geolocated site, but now just goes to the main recipe site. This is good.

However, most of the recipes are no longer there (as per the search field). I am mIssing my potato wedge recipe.

    and the honey roasted corn,
and the nashville roasted whole cauliflower
    and the roasted ratatouille
    and the cherry pie
    and ... and ...

Sure, I could get similar recipes from one of my many cookbooks, or online. but your recipes promoted the use of eggcessories, or sauces.

which I would happily bought time and time again and will no longer be prompted to buy

I have never heard of a cookware company removing recipes or other things that encourage more use of the product. Removing the recipes is costing you money - Dan: do you hear that? Maybe my bottle of BGE sauce every so often won't break you, but all over the world other people are no longer being encouraged to buy your products. I've seen complaints on your Facebook page about the missing recipes so I am not the only one.

As it is - I'm more than a bit put off that I have family coming over and the recipe I was going to use is no longer there.

  • hey Zaphod did you take a look at my note about the wayback machine up there?  they have the corn recipe archived — and probably the others you need. the internet archive stores periodical snapshots of websites and makes them accessible.

@zaphod I hear what you did there  ;)

  • the dynamic search does not function in the archive as it just crawls all the links. i took the time to click through several pages until i ran across one you are looking for.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20241010103333/https://biggreenegg.com/recipes/roasted-ratatouille/

the faster way would be to paste the url (from your bookmark) in the top window. highlighted yellow in screen shot below.  the wayback machine will tell you how many times it preserved a snapshot.

obviously continue with your grievance that hq took recipes away as you wish. but i am giving you an option to access the recipe and make your own archive.

Hey @Buckwoody Egger - spot on for the wayback machine. After my rant (I call it what it is) I wayback'ed the recipe I was after and was already upstairs with the printout with it :)

My wife is a professional documentation person, and I have healthy respect for copyrights, but i'm going to wayback machine all the recipes I bookmarked and store PDF copies of them. sigh. I really hate doing that, but the recent changes on the site kind of cornered me.

FWIW, the recipe called for a BGE dill rub that I don't have so I guess tomorrow I;m off to the dealer to put more money into the motherEgg.

Never had that dill rub. Have you considered whether you can make something comparable yourself?

I've been saving recipes from numerous places (here predominantly) to separate text files for years now, that looked interesting to me; currently have 784.  I need to pay more attention, for any "lost" recipes.

Never really done that. I'm always a whirlwind of noise and fuss and excitement in the kitchen, I don't know if I could fit in making my own rubs :)

if you could upload all those recipes to an AI tool and ask it to give you a weekly shopping list and meal plan for two years of dinners with efficient inventory, readily available ingredients and minimal waste -- well, that would be interesting

Hey there! Glad that the redirect issue is resolved. I'm happy to send these recipes to you via email, if you'd like as well. Shoot me a message with any that you're missing and I'll get on the case!
