Today I received this update:
Regarding situation, yes it’s hard.
Our damage to russia is miserable compared.
We kind of lost this war and I guess negotiations are soon be completed, because it doesn’t make much sense (at least for us) to continue.

Thank you @RRP for the front-line assessment however bleat it is.  This war has become a stalemate across the front lines.  Neither side is making much progress and we are killing many military and civilians along the way.
Today is day 990 of the Russian quick strike that commenced on Feb 24, 2022.
The above is tough to read but reflects the reality of the war.
At some point one has to acknowledge the battlefield facts.

Sounds like he knows that the funding is now likely to go away. Sad day for the Ukrainian people.

Given the stalemate after dang near 1,000 days of war,  easy for me to write but at some point it may be time to assess the way ahead and look for the best option for closure.
Heavy funding in has not advanced the battle lines and should it become less (although the extent western Europe's commitment as a potential replacement is not known) then even if equivalent I doubt the tactical or broader strategic aims will be achieved.  FWIW-

From The Atlantic: A good read and the link works!

Putin Isn’t Fighting for Land in Ukraine

And Biden has mere weeks to give the Ukrainians the resources they need to fight.

"The new team will immediately run into the same dilemma that everyone else has encountered: 'Land for peace' sounds nice, but the president of Russia isn’t fighting for land. Putin is fighting not to conquer Pokrovsk but to destroy Ukraine as a nation. He wants to show his own people that Ukraine’s democratic aspirations are hopeless. He wants to prove that a whole host of international laws and norms, including the United Nations Charter and the Geneva conventions, no longer matter. His goal is not to have peace but to build concentration camps, torture civilians, kidnap 20,000 Ukrainian children, and get away with it—which, so far, he has." Anne Applebaum in The Atlantic (Gift Article): Putin Isn’t Fighting for Land in Ukraine.

Today I received two more emails from my egger friend. I think he is entitled to his own opinions:

Honestly speaking, I don’t think he has destroying us as a goal. He wanted to control Ukraine when started the war. But not as a goal, but a way to pressure on west.
Imho we are just  playground for west and east where they deal with their relationships.
Thats how I see it at this point of time
