Will the latest "new" band / hinge kit work with my old EGG?

I don't know exactly how old my EGG is. It's surface is the squiggly style rather than the golf ball style, the "Big green egg R" text is indented, and all I can make out on the inside of the top dome is "B225". It had the scissor style hinge (no springs). I replaced those with the box style hinge (springs in the back) in about 2010.

Right now, it's got a side-bite, so I think something's bent. I was looking at the newer spring hinge at a dealer, but the box said that it fits all EGGs made after some year, 2008? 2012? Mine's probably older. Is there a way to find out if it'll still work OK?

it doesnt work on mine, maybe will if i stack several gaskets. the band is wider than the section on the base and dome and causes a gap in back that cant be adjusted. it just may be the casting on mine as others have got it to fit. mines an early  2005 large.

I have 2 large eggs, one purchased in 2004 and the other in 2008. Both of my larges have the new bands on them and the bands fit on my eggs with zero issues.

i think its the luck of the draw with the castings, if i fit my bands tight to the band lip on the ceramic it overhangs the gasket and lifts the dome higher. the band engages before the gasket. close to a quarter inch gap in the back. never had this problem with the old style spring bands, i could get the gap tight with or without gaskets.

Oh, great info. It's not the diameter but the width of the metal band vs. the width of where the band sits on each dome. Got it. It sounds like I really need to measure that landing area on *my* egg and compare to the width of the new band. And I'll measure at several places.

i might measure that too if you can, they changed to spring hinges in 2001. i think @RRP had changed to the newest band style from the old scissor style. with my 05 the diameter was not a problem

there is someone making the box style spring, dont know much about these

i'm just spitballin' here, but if there is not enough green where the band sits so that the new bands don't fit, would a rutland gasket on top AND bottom spread apart the dome and base enough to fit the new bands?

On mine, my guess is four gaskets total to work, I'm starting with negative green. Will probably just stack them all on the bottom
