I have a Med BGE and have always wanted an XL but didn't want to drop the coin for a new retail and any of the used I came across were priced close to retail (people think they have gold I guess). Anyway, been on and off looking for a few years yesterday scored a deal I couldn't pass up.

It's a 4 year old XL BGE and came with the Nest, Acacia Wood Egg Mates, Conveggtor, cover and BGE Utensil set. Price was $600 and 12 hr round trip today.

Guess I will throw another $600 at it and get the EGGspander 5 Piece Kit for $350 and the Fire Bowl - $250 or Kick Ash Bundel - $233. Which one would you guys recommend, the BGE Fire Bowl or the Kick ash option.

You sir have the best duo available. Congrats on the score.

You don’t need a basket for the XL. The grate is so big that airflow is not an issue. Just burn a bag of lump and then rake the cold ashes in the empty bag.

I recommend getting Ceramic Grill Store for raised grid products etc.

Better to be lucky than good comes to mind.  Great score.
Give this place a search as I think the XLBGE does extremely well w/o any Kick Ash accessories.  Only own a L and SBGE so no personal knowledge.  FWIW-
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I agree the fire basket is a nice to have but is really not a required item, I never had a real issue with ash removal and can do that chore in a few minutes.

I have been out to both the BGE store and the Ceramic Grill Store and compared options for a system to hold the
Conveggtor but to be honest I'm getting lost in what both offer. All I really need is 1) hold the Conveggtor (plate setter), 2) bring cooking grid to felt line and 3) use a 1/2 stone to have both direct and indirect cooking.

The BGE store lists an EGGspander convEGGtor Basket for $300

The Ceramic Grill Store lists an XL Big Green EGG Expander, CGS Woo for $60

Thats a pretty big price swing assuming both do the same thing. Am I looking at this correctly, will the above options fill my 1,2,3 needs?

$300 from BGE is borderline criminal. Go with Ceramic Grill Store.

Also, CGS stainless drip pans are worth it as well. Get the kiln stands from them to raise the drip pan off the heat deflector.

I have that Woo- used to have the PSWoo on the LGBE.  Anyway the Woo w two half stones does all my cooks- Full indirect, half and direct at felt line.  So easy to pull in and out and I use the KAB as well its just too easy to shake it and clean the ash or pull it out so I can really see what the ash situation is.

Not quite in Austin, TX City Limits
Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting.  The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president.

Another question, the SN and/or date on this BGE is

    2A220
    021020

Is it safe to assume this BGE was manufactured Feb 10 2020
