I need creative help with a castor issue

I’m new to the forums. But have been a reader since I got my medium bge close to 5 years ago. Here’s my issue. I have the nest and handler which the warranty expired on after the first year. An internally welded nut that holds the casters on busted off last month and now it’s just resting on the nest.  It takes me and my wife to lift it and move it out of the garage. Any ideas on how I can “replace” the casters. I wasn’t a fan of the size of the originals anyway. And am looking for some creative DIY ideas. Thanks for any help or recommendations!!

You could mount it to a furniture or appliance dolly.
  • I know he hasn’t been that present as of late, but I remember @rrp having affixed various wheels to carts and tables. Perhaps he could offer insight?

Love the Med, btw. It doesn’t get enough love.

I remember coming on a few years ago and was seeing some really cool custom builds and thinking, “well if I ever need to fix something I could give that a try!”… now I can’t find them anywhere

i love the medium too!  Perfect size to do about anything (I’ve gotten away with a 22lb turkey before) and an excellent introduction to the world of kamado grills let alone smoking!

I have looked into those, one of my issues is that I’m on a slopped driveway and I feel like lifting the nest any higher that ordinary casters (without extending the legs outwards) would make it a bit more unstable that I am comfortable with.

What a crappy design. If the caster isn’t threaded in all the way it will push the nut off the frame eventually.
Do you have the castor off? Or is it just flopping around

Just use a larger dolly for extra stability. It’ll be more stable than the standard nest with casters.

If you live in the Atlanta area, I have a nest that I’ll give you.

Search the forum, but spell it "caster" and you'll get a good history on this that may have an idea that can help you.
    Love you bro!

The caster is fully off, and because I am addicted to cooking with this thing I removed the rest so it’s stable enough to still use. It’s Just become a pain to move around.

I am not sure your thread size but it looks like they have many variations. Tighten it up with a regular bolt to get it fitted then thread your caster on.
