Changed warranty

I know it may sound crazy but I have a XL that was purchased in 2013 by a dealer who registered it with BGE and told me I did not need anything but the registration in my name to get warranty. I called BGE then and they told me the same thing and I did not keep my receipt as I did not think I would need it.  As recently as last spring I called about this when I was deciding to upgrade my setup and was told the same thing.  Now along comes a new manager and he has new rules for older stuff which I see as unethical.  Changing rules for future buys would be acceptable but not retroactively.I also do not like the fact that BGE copies items/ideas from CGS without their permission and makes them with inferior materials..   Since I now no longer think BGE is trustworthy and is not dependable, If I need any new kamados it will be another brand.

Looks like BGE sank the original thread.

Yeah I just posted in it and they’re not letting that discussion come back to top. Why???

My guess is because we gave BGE some hard truths and feedback from the community.  Like the fact they are changing how the policy has been handled for a decade and that they told people once registration is done, you don't need to save receipts and stuff.  Now they require receipts, no more in store same day exchanges, and you have to wait for corporate to approve the warranty which can be 48hrs.  I would suspect longer, and not sure if holidays and weekends count.  Does 48 hr start when I tell them, or the next day?

We will ultimately have to wait and see how well this all works.  Since most my dealers around here don't know anything about the warranty, I suspect it will continue to be the same boondoggle as it has always been when dealing with uneducated dealers.

Interesting. I see your replies but it didn’t show up on the page to indicate a new post for me either

I guess on a corporate owned and operated discussion it wouldn’t be realistic to expect otherwise?

These posts remind me of a book by Stephen Baxter "The Light of Other Days"

They created a device that allowed you to see into the past.  Just like linking to sunk threads.  We can't see the thread on the front page, but we can link to it from a new thread on the front page, so does that make it look better or worse if you are searching forums for information?

I’ve never read that book, but I’m old school believing a man’s word is his bond and that belief is applied to businesses as well. To me a warranty should be honored. Changing the warranty MOVING forward is one thing, but p*ssing on your past customers who put BGE on the map is another!

But it looks like with me here with my 4 BGEs purchased in the 1990’s I’m really screwed!…

  • Oh great. The place I got mine doesn't even sell them anymore. Not sure where I have my receipt from 10+ years ago.

I have a picture of my receipt and the two sets of numbers . Then I did what everyone was saying at the time and registered it on line.

I bought my medium directly from the old mothership and have handled all of my warranty issues in person there. I hope they don’t give me the run around.
