Acetone vs Denatured alcohol

I change my BGE XL gaskets annually and have do so since I bought it in 2005.  To clean the rim after removing old gasket, I use a scraper (sometimes a razor blade) to remove the residual glue from the old gasket.  My question is Denatured alcohol ok to use instead of Acetone or goop off?  I was recently told NOT to use Denatured alcohol because it contains harsh chemicals.

Denatured alcohol is just ethanol (eg booze) with things like acetone or methanol added to make it poisonous if ingested - to make sure people don't try to drink it.
    Love you bro!
