Canadian Carbon Tax

This is the first I have heard of this. What say you Canadians? Do you have to keep track of how much carbon you produce every year? Like your car produces, and heating your house, BGE, etc? If you are poor and heat with a wood stove do you pay higher taxes than the rich guy with a new furnace? Is it audited every year?

No, they just add it to the cost of fuels, ie. gas diesel, natural gas, etc. and pretend it doesn't add to the cost of things like groceries, etc. or anything else that's trucked across the country. They then give you a tiny rebate cheque 4 times a year and pretend that you actually get back more than you paid. I can tell you first hand I pay way more then I get back. It's a typical government solution that hopefully disappears quicker than it came. It keeps increasing every April too. Currently 10% of our gas costs is carbon tax. That is of course before they add the sales tax, so we pay tax on our tax. I think our government forgot we live in a climate that needs heat to survive, or maybe they are using that to their advantage, who knows.alaskanassasin said:This is the first I have heard of this. Pretty crazy. We sometimes get a tax credit for more efficient appliances but I haven’t heard of a penalty for not upgrading.South of Columbus, Ohio.
