1999 rollover to 2000-Peter Jennings and ABC's world-wide coverage was masterful.
If you watched it, you will never forget!
A summary linked here:
I fired up the TV around 6:30 AM (EST) NYE AM (missed the first 90 minutes) and stayed with it til the show wrapped up with Hawaii at 5 AM (EST) January 1st.
What a tremendous production.
Happy 123123 and New Year!

Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

    I remember that.

Peter Jennings: “Ladies and gentlemen, we now bring you our Minneapolis correspondent, Ted Baxter.  Ted?”

Only us old farts will get that joke.  Happy New Year Eggheads!

  • I didn’t get to see that broadcast. I was early in my cyber security career and we were monitoring our global systems to see if anything crashed from Y2K. I ended up losing about $80 that night playing poker with my co-workers because nothing happened.

I was technically in that broadcast…

phish was having a MASSIVE weeklong show in the big cypress Seminole reservation. Jennings and the broadcast showed a song the band did, and then panned the camera over the crowd.

See? There? That was ME! (And 90,000 of my friends..)

Fun side story - the band and fans decided to play a prank on the world at that broadcast. Instead of cheering like normal fans would, we collectively decided to chant the word, “CHEESECAKE!” Over and over again after the song.
Hard to make it out.  But you can hear it.

Second fun side story! ;) their new year show was the million dollar question in “who wants to be a millionaire” that won the first million…

I thought the first million dollar question (correctly answered) was which President had appeared on Laugh In.

    Ahh yes...Y2K.

I think I still have a couple hundred cans of tuna/sardines in my garage leftover from my Y2K stash. Afraid to open them as they might have "turned" and now smell like surströmming.

You’re probably right - I couldn’t google anything on the subject, especially after the champagne, and just went for it based on memory :)

    happy new year my friend!
