Fan/flame boss alternative

I had been a loyal flame boss fan boy, until recently. The last 2 went south quickly. The originals had metal parts that are now plastic and melt. I had amazing customer service until 2 years ago also.  I am looking for a reliable alternative. Anyone got anything?

I've been using the Smobot for several years (there are several threads here on it) and have been mostly happy with it.  It replaces the wheel at the top of the Egg, opening and closing per the pit probe.  No fans/forced air.
I don't use it anymore for higher-heat cooks (chicken, ribs) as spattering grease will eventually gum up the two sliding disks; can be easily cleaned when disassembled and mine's due for it's third deep-cleaning.  A similar adjusting mechanism, at the bottom vent, would be perfect (although then it's exposed to more heat, possibly failing like your FB).

What parts are you talking about?  I've been a dealer for the 9 years they have been around and I have not seen any parts change, nor "melt" outside of negligence.

What were your customer service issues?  Same owner, same employees for many years.

Not saying you don’t have valid points. But if you’re going to call out a solid company it would be great to have the details or a photo.
These temp controllers are designed for low and slow and moderate temp grilling. Some in the past expect them to maintain much higher temperatures.

FWIW, I replaced my Flame Boss 200 with a Smobot and I've been very happy with it.
Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning.
  • Smobot all the way.
