BGE branded Acacia table - tightening up after a few years

Tightening up a wobbly acacia table and repairing the casters.  Thought this was worth documenting.

The corner bolts do not originally come with lock washers and gradually loosen with use.  Adding 16 lock washers restored and shored up the structural integrity a bit.

The caster’s insert / furniture nuts can wear themselves out.  Casters on one side failed (not pictured) due to wearing out the hole. Considered replacing the casters with a flat mount caster, potentially on an additional board running along the bottom. To use the 4” casters already on hand, I was able to easily back out the insert / furniture nut, drill through, enlarge the hole for a 1.75” 3/8 16 coarse thread coupling nut, add some washers, a lock washer and use a 3/4” bolt to compression mount the caster securely on the ~2” bottom board.

So far so good, use at your own risk!

Whenever I see a nice wood table for an egg, I miss mine.  My original table wasn't the BGE table.  It was custom made by my childhood best friend.  My ex-wife demanded it in the divorce and then sold it.

I hope whoever bought it from her sees this and is taking care of it.  It could probably use a little "tune up" just like this.  I bet it will outlast all of us if taken care of.

    Nice work.

Sometimes you just gotta make a rat rod. Everything used / hacked except miscellaneous bolts and screws.  The blocks are a bit absurd but provided the stability with only two lags / washers on the underside between the slats of the table top (no new holes in table).

And here I thought you were talking about your ex needing the “tune up” and tightening up!
  • Viva La Rat Rod!  Lowered the shelf and added a $125 underbody tool box.  At that price, it is an off-gassing import of appropriately questionable watertightness and quality.  And the most expensive item in the mix. Also added a lid holder to the side.
