OT - Welp: Life Threw Us Another Curve Ball

SWMBO’s spine issues have gotten to the point where she needs a chair if she needs to travel more than 100’ or so. As she was in the service also, the VA provided her the chair, but she was too able-bodied (per the VA guidelines) for the VA to help with the cost of the van. So we just took delivery of a Toyota Sienna conversion van that will give her much more independence than she had prior to this.

When you get thrown a curve ball you just need to go with the pitch.

Way to step up and do what needs doing.  All we can do is keep pushing forward.

I am also sorry your wife is having these struggles.  Losing your independence has to be very difficult.

  • Sorry to hear about your wife’s spine issues, but it seems like you’ve found a good stride. Good choice of vehicle and customized to the hilt. The home in the backdrop is the icing on the cake. Beautiful setting.

Personally, I think this ride deserves a spot on the exotics thread.
  • Life curve balls suck but it looks like you hit that one pretty good. Keep swinging and all the best to your wife.

Tough news right there.  But echoing the above, you took on the challenge and did the right thing across the board.  Keep pressing forward.

Thanks all for the kind words. It bummed me out to have to sell the F-450 and the 5th Wheel, but we just couldn’t make it work. We could put her chair in the back of the camper, but then once we got somewhere we would have no way to get her chair in to the truck (chair weighs just shy of 400 lbs) to go out sightseeing, etc.

So we will now be buying a Class A once the 5er is sold, and tow the van behind it with the chair inside.

A quick pivot and you'll be back at it man!  I like that you're not letting this change affect the plans!

I read the first paragraph, and was already thinking exactly what your second paragraph says!

In a somewhat Buddhist vein, these are but material things. Meant to serve a purpose. If said purpose is no longer being served, then... onward!

Exactly my thought process. The 450 and 5er would no longer work for us. SWMBO was more concerned about selling them than I was. Sure I was disappointed to sell the truck, but I made the pragmatic decision about what had to be done and moved on.

That is the way to take the positive spin and go forward.
