Chip on my rim of bottom. Replacing gasket

Hello, I was trying to replace my gaskets on top and bottom, when I started to take it off the top it was pulling off the ceramic in chunks.
I took pictures, brought it to my dealer and they replaced it. I started ti replace the bottom last night and the same thing happened, a big chunk came off. I tried to do the same with the bottom but the dealer denied my Warrenty claim. What can I use to fill in that chunk? I’ve posted pics below.

He!! of an opening post.  Never have heard of that happening.
I would raise the issue with BGE HQ as your dealer should have replaced your base.
Regarding a fix, I am no ceramic expert.  Hopefully someone will be along with  a good suggestion.  Absent that I would try JB Weld.

Unrelated to the above, welcome aboard and it sounds like you have plenty of BGE run-time.  Once the above is sorted out continue to enjoy the journey and have fun.

I've never seen that, either.  Is that the original gasket?

I think I would just put a new gasket on it and try not to think about it every time I used the egg.

But, it would drive me nuts.

Personally, I’d put a Rutland on it with a little extra rtv in the area and not worry about it. The base will eventually crack and be replaced.

  • When I bought my large, the dealer game me one with a very similar chip. For the money they charge here (Canada), I was disappointed and asked for a new one. They obliged.

I would never go for a chip in my rim. That's how church farts slip out. Get yourself some bum putty before Sunday Bean Dinner down at the rectory, please. I could be in the next pew.

Thanks! I’ve had my egg since 2014, I contacted HQ like you said and I just have to go pick up my new base Friday! So excited! Do you think I should get the new ring kit since I have a new top and bottom? It would essentially be a new egg. Thanks for the suggestion

Since you asked, I would get the band kit because it is quite forgiving compared to the old set up.  The dome does not open as wide but that is a minor issue.
Glad HQ took care of you.
