OT: Peach Picking, Cherry Picking, and Free Cherry Wood

With summer nearly upon us, my wife put in a request for another Peach Cobbler. I am more than happy to oblige.
We also noticed that summer brings U-Pick opportunities near us. A quick search found an area within a short drive that promised multiple fruits for picking.
We got to the first orchard and loaded up on two pounds of white peaches. Score!
Next, we headed down the road to a Cherry U-Pick orchard. As we were collecting cherries, I noticed several downed trees that had been bucked into smaller pieces. I politely inquired at the check out tent if they would consider selling any of the cherry wood. The attendant said, go ahead and take all you want. Score!
After delegating the remaining cherry picking to my wife and son I quietly stockpiled about 40 pounds of trunk wood and branch wood and loaded it into the car.
The attendant came out and asked me if I had a truck to take away all that wood. I tipped him and his staff and we were off.
Here's the cherry wood haul.
After we got home I check on Fruita and this amount of cherry would have cost at least $75-100!
Here are the two establishments in case anyone else is in the area and looking for a fun summer activity.

Very cool. I've read that because of some cold snap the East coast peach harvest this year is gonna be thin/expensive, good that we have some locally.___________

Better to be lucky than good right there. Great day.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
Very cool indeed. I'm pretty close to peach territory, and although I have inquired with my contacts in the area, I have failed to score. Maybe one of these days.Wetumpka, Alabama

Though I had some peach tree trunk pictures to share I can't find them!
Anyway - my neighbors had a large old peach tree cut down. They had already given me 9 feet of pieces cut from a sister trunk cut from it a couple years ago. Then they gave up on that tree altogether and had it taken clear down to the ground this spring. I was given all the big pieces that I wanted and then I gave away 8 feet of it. I am still air drying all the rest of it though I have used and split 24" of the pieces from years ago. That peach tree DOES impart a subtle sweet flavor pork and chicken! And for whatever it is worth their peach tree was never sprayed with any pesticide...if that makes any difference!
Guess what I am saying is if you CAN find some FREE fruit tree wood then GRAB IT!!! -

If you want an endless supply of fruit wood, just try growing your own! They don't have to take up a lot of space, if you learn some fancy training styles like espalier. That way, when you get sick and tired of diseased peaches, 'self-pollinating' cherries that aren't, and feeding the squirrels apples, you're set for life with wood.
